Devil's Hole

I have been working to edit and organize the hundreds of photographs I have from my trip to Hayasdan last summer and I just finished this one. It is looking up at the hole in the top of the monastery in Haghpat, Armenia. I cropped the image so that it was perfectly square in order to highlight the symmetry of the subject. I also reduced the brightness of the incoming light so that the intricate stone carving surrounding the hole is visible. These so-called "devil's holes" are found in the roof of most Armenian chapels and they provide an exit for evil spirits (and for incense).
